Church is a place for solemn and troubled souls.
I don’t know a lot about churches but being fascinated to it’s beauty is always my thing.Santo Domingo Church is a huge church located at 537 Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. The church was destroyed by a lot of misfortune of earthquake and fires in the past but now it stand strong employed with the latest technique in reinforced concrete building. The Mission-style architecture includes Romanesque and Gothic designs that accomodate more space. Measuring 85 by 40 metres (279 ft x 131 ft) with a height of 25 metres (82 ft), a total floor area of 3,300 square metres (36,000 wooden bas relief of Saints.sq. ft). WikipediaIt is a Spanish Modern Style that suits it’s solemnity and silence. The busy street of the metro with hundreds of people passing back and forth stands a great reminder for everyone of us to say a little prayer. As we enter the huge facade of the ChurchEntering the huge main entrance door of the Sto. Domingo Church you can clearly see how huge it is in the inside, the aisle of the church is also undeniably elongated from the main entrance door.On the right side of the main door behind the last pew is the statue of BL. Margaret of Castello OP and beside the statue is the Mortuary. The left side of the church is a long patio leading to the other side, on the wall of the patio hangs the wooden bas relief of Saints along it’s end.In the nave of the church there are eight colorful murals by National Artist Carlos Francisco depicting the life and times of Santo Domingo de Guzman, the Spaniard who founded the Order of Preachers. Francisco’s murals are just below the equally brilliant murals of the Four Evangelists in vivid brown tones by Vicente Garcia Llamas. WikipediaOn the left side of the main altar is the is the image of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of La Naval. On the right side of the main altar is dedicated to Saint Martin De Porres.Giant Choir loft where the century old pipe organ is located made by Fray Gregorio Hontamin, OP made in Rosaryhill in Hong Kong. The Dominican transferred the pipe organ from Hong Kong to Sto. Domingo Church in 1954.On the left façade side of the Church is located the Souvenir Shop where you can buy different Saints figures in different sizes, chaplets, healing oils, candles, books, rosary and more.Beside the souvenir shop is The Santo Domingo Museum (Museo de Santo Domingo) houses other valuable objects which had been used in the old Santo Domingo Church in Intramuros. On the other side of the church is located the Sanctuary Light of the church, you can also see a prayer before you light the votive candle. On the left side of the Church is also located the Adoration Chapel and the Sto.
